A few folks have noticed that the album art on Zune Marketplace looks better, both on the PC and on your Zune. It's true. Last Tuesday, we started featuring 800x800 album art available for download, and for sync with the Zune device. In addition, ripped CDs will have 240x240 art available where available, and this should also be synced to the device.

We actually released this last week, but I haven't had a chance to look at it until now - my bad!

So, all MP3's purchased through the Zune Marketplace have 800x800 album art, or only select tracks/albums?

Any chance ripped CD's will see 800x800 album art soon?

Does this extend to WMP11 as well?

Ahhh, so it's official now! Glad to hear it. Huge kudos to you guys and gals for doing this; the original artwork was just too low quality to be so prominently featured on the Zune. This new art is fantastic, and I'm very glad to hear that ripped CDs will be in at least 240x240 (though I'll likely take care of that myself anyway).

Looking forward to the 13th! :)

Nice, but how does our current low resolution artwork gets updated?

Waiting for my Z80Gb... and new FW on my Z30Gb...

Cheers,

DS.

Oh, man! That's good news. Now I can stop going to Amazon for all of my album art.

This would indicate Zune devices will support image files having resolutions beyond 640x480.  What is the maximium size that can be sync'd to the device?  I understand the device won't be able to display detail but I'm trying to eliminate any transcoding.

good question, John.

Cool, Happy Halloween everyone!

So does this mean if I search google for album art thats 800x800 it will sync to my Zune 240x240 resolution too?

Yeah, I was wondering Cesar, what would be the best way to update album on Zune Pass stuff that's at 150x150?

I tried redownloading some tracks and it's definitely better.  It could still stand to be a little less JPEGed on the device, though this is probably because the conversion is being done by the old software for the old firmware.  I'm hoping the new firmware and software are a little less aggressive at compressing it.  I mean, a 240x240 image only needs to be 35-40k before you can't see any JPEG artifacts at all.

I saw the funniest thing on TV just now! An iPod Touch ad with the song from CSS - Music Is My Hot, Hot Sex! If you can't remember that song, look at the video with the "Lion and Gazelle"

Cesar showed us this video as an ad for the Zune. I just thought it was funny that APPL is using songs from Zune ads with SO MANY songs out there

The new art is FANTASTIC.

Is it true that even with new firmware, Zune 30 will not support native h.264/mpg4 codecs(must transcode)?

Nice, in theory.  But even though I have "Only add missing information" checked off in the settings, the Zune software is replacing all of my album art anyway.  This would be fine if the art matched (I've got Faith Hill showing up for a track by Fabolous) and was any good - most of the covers I see are washed out, some are crooked, etc.

Please tell me that this is just replacing the Microsoft folder art jpegs, and not the actual IDv3 embedded artwork...  Please.
