Yesterday we announced that we'll be releasing a military exclusive Zune - available exclusively at military retailers. These will be available to military personnel and their families at a special discounted price.

Yesterday we partnered with the USO (Microsoft and the USO have a long-standing partnership) for an event at the Baltimore Washington International airport. We gave away 300 devices at BWI,part of a cool care package that we put together for soldiers there.

The idea, in large part, came about because we heard from military folks via ZuneInsider. Based on the positive feedback, the Zune team worked with Microsoft's U.S. Federal business group to develop the special Zune - Halo 3 military exclusive. I'd like to take this chance to give a shout-out to Reggie, Eric, Kevyn, John, and all the other folks (heroes) serving in the armed forces.

Awesome! Way to give back to the troops, in any way possible.

While this may sound a bit too insensitive to be funny I have to ask:

Did you send the Zune's with pouch cases made of kevlar?

In either case, it's great that you're showing your support for them.

Have a great time! I hope there are some big announcements when you get back! :)

I'm really impressed with MS for doing this. I mean, yeah, I guess it's all about publicity and marketing, but how can you argue with giving away 300 players to US troops?! Good on MS, I hope this gets the Zune some excellent publicity on the major news networks.

Hey Cesar, I just realized you're getting married the day that marks me and my lady going at if for 20 Months. XD

Awesome!

The fact that the Zune/Microsoft folks thought about our great Soldiers, Airman, and Sailors is really admirable.

Thanks!

Awesome! My roommate has access to the navy base in Seattle, so I may go over there with him to pick one up.

I also hope for big announcements when you come back :)

What can I say Cesar... Thanks it means a lot to us here.  Once again Congrats, enjoy your time off.  Thanks again from Afghanistan.

I think this was great of the Zune team to do.

On a different note as you know Cesar is not going to be posting for next 3 weeks which is till the end of this month. Which also means no new Zune device or anouncement till then. I am pretty sure now that new Zune device and update will come in September or after not before. I do not think Cesar would have taken off if new Zunes were to be anounced.

Wow. Eventually there will be more unique special editions than there have been Zunes sold!

Keep the heat on Apple. Even a great company needs competition.

I almost wanted to cry after I losted all of the content preloaded with my Halo Zune...

Please let us download those stuff which I miss back!

Hello, are you there ?

Roger

do somebody knows when microsoft start the zune release in europe? please give feedback. bye

SweeT...

Im glad MS is putting out bux and giving things away for a good cause! Its a nice thing to do...... but dont forget about the 1.2 million of us that paid full price for the zune..... WE WANT OPEN WIFI!!!

;)

Martin, part of the delay I believe is that Microsoft isn't looking to push the U.S. content store out to other countries as is.  I remember some mention that they want/need to colloborate with local music distribution companies before they can sell Zunes to other regions.

well, the boss is back...Welcome back, Cesar.

We missed you and the updates...so. What is going on ?

is Urge with Microsoft or what ?

@kenny..send me an email and I will send you links for the Halo preloaded content.

On the heels of the popular black Zune – Halo 3 Edition, Microsoft is introducing a new brown version
